The Chicago Parents Union (CPU) is a membership association established to promote the rights of Chicago public school parents and to provide services to meet their advocacy and educational needs. The mission of the CPU is to empower parents through collective action so that the public school system works for families. Why do we need a Parents' Union? We are in a crisis period for parent empowerment. The Chicago Public School system is changing radically and rapidly. CPS is creating more and more charters and alternative schools without Local School Councils. Parents need a power base that can’t be taken away, an organized way for parents to take strong action citywide. In a time of crisis we need an organized banner to come under. |
